SCHOLARSHIPS

    The Red Pencil (Singapore) offers scholarships for Masters in Art Therapy at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore to deserving Singaporean and Singapore PR candidates who wish to pursue art therapy as a profession.

    The value of the scholarship is 50% of the tuition fees for the 2-year full-time programme at the institution. Other accredited institutions worldwide can be considered upon request.

    OBJECTIVES OF SCHOLARSHIP

    The objective of this scholarship is to inspire candidates who are keen to pursue art therapy as a profession, but may need financial support in paying a certain percentage of the entire tuition fees. Candidates are expected to dedicate their time in helping people benefit from art therapy.

    SELECTION CRITERIA

    The scholarship is offered once a year, and closing date of application is 30th June. Candidates who are keen to apply for the scholarship must meet the following requirements:

    1. Be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
    2. Attained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75 out of 5.0 (or equivalent) in his/her undergraduate studies
    3. Experiences low financial capability in paying for the entire Masters course
    4. Written a thoughtful 500-word essay outlining his/her reasons for choosing Art Therapy as a profession, as well as how he/she can contribute as an art therapist in future. Candidates should submit their response in the Application Form Package.
    5. Have been involved in extensive community service and volunteer work
    6. Possesses the personality and capability to be an ambassador of The Red Pencil

    To process the application, candidates should complete and submit the Scholarship Application Form to welcome@redpencil.org with the subject title “Scholarship Application – Full Name”.

    You can expect to receive an acknowledgement of receipt by email within a week of your completed application. Shortlisting and interviews will be conducted in the month of July, and you will be informed of the final result of your application in August.

    SCHOLARSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    The Red Pencil (Singapore) will determine the value of the scholarship for candidates. Upon successful application, the candidate must fulfil the requirements below:

    • Maintain minimum GPA of 3.75 per semester
    • Participate in The Red Pencil’s programmes and events in Singapore during school breaks, whenever possible
    • Submit a written report based on art therapy after the first academic year and at the end of the final year
    • Upon graduation, candidates must serve certain hours of art therapy work for The Red Pencil’s programmes and projects, over a period of two (2) years from date of graduation, pro-rated accordingly to the value of the sponsorship

    The Red Pencil (Singapore) reserves the right to terminate or revoke the scholarship if the candidates fail to fulfil any of these requirements for each semester.

    1ST ACADEMIC YEAR

    Semester 1 (August – December) & Semester 2 (January – April)

    • The scholar known as “Scholars” must submit a copy of their results to The Red Pencil for each semester within a week after academic transcripts have been released by LASALLE. The scholar has to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.75 out of 5.0

    Summer Holidays (May – August)

    • Scholars are required to volunteer in a local programme/event organised by The Red Pencil
    • Scholars must submit a written report of their first academic year by 30th June based on their 1st year learning and reflections

    2nd ACADEMIC YEAR

    Semester 1 (August – December) & Semester 2 (January – April)

    • Scholars must submit a copy of their results to The Red Pencil for each semester within a week after academic transcripts have been released by LASALLE. The scholar has to maintain a GPA of at least 3.75 out of 5.0

    Summer Holidays (May – August)

    • Scholars are required to volunteer in a local programme/event organised by The Red Pencil
    • Scholars must submit a written report of their second academic year by 30th June based on their learning process and their future plans in contributing to the community

    AFTER GRADUATION

    Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents

    Scholars must contribute to The Red Pencil as an art therapist upon graduation. They will be required to complete minimum 120 hours (only direct client-contact hours counted) of art therapy service with The Red Pencil. They can choose from the following options:-

    • Conduct art therapy sessions arranged by The Red Pencil
    • Initiate and carry out a project of their own in Singapore
    • Organise a seminar in Singapore with at least 50 participants in attendance
    • Conduct an art therapy research relevant to the topic of interest

    Note:

    • For organising of proposed project / seminar and conducting a research, scholars must discuss with The Red Pencil for approval before they embark on the process
    • Scholars must notify their prospective employers of their binding agreement with RPS to fulfil this bond requirement and obtain their approval to be released to fulfil their bond hours.
    • Scholars are required to register with Ministry of Education (MOE) as an instructor upon graduation so as to be able to conduct art therapy sessions in MOE schools.
