“Art therapy is more about what transpires during the process…

the process takes trust, patience from both the client and therapist."

1. What drew you to intern at The Red Pencil (Singapore), and what was your role during your internship?

As a psychology major, with previous experience in the non-profit sector and in partnerships as well, there was a natural curiosity towards the work that The Red Pencil (Singapore) does and especially in the capacity of a Corporate Partnerships Intern.

2. How did your experience as a Corporate Partnerships intern influence your personal or professional development?

The time spent here, the exposure to various conversations, encouraged me to be bold in my creativity and thinking. I learnt that willingness and openness to experiences are crucial parts to growth, be it personal or in professional settings.

3. What skills or knowledge did you gain or improve upon during your internship, and how did you see them benefiting your future career?

Through my observations of the different ways that individuals communicate, negotiate and navigate in discussions have expanded my understanding of the value of human relationships. I believe that continued growth of such understanding is especially important if I intend to pursue a career that works closely with people.

4. What did you learn about art therapy and its impact on people in need?

I learn that art therapy is more about what transpires during the process and is not outcome-oriented (in terms of the art). That the process takes trust, patience from both the client and therapist and with skilled, wise facilitation.

5. How has your experience as an intern shaped your future career goals or aspirations?

I gained more clarity in the kind of work and impact I would like to do and with whom. An individual can only do so much, but a willing individual in a principled and driven team can go further.
