My internship experience reaffirmed my desire to work for organisations that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. It also sparked an interest in exploring how different forms of creative expression can be integrated into my daily life and future choices.
How did your experience as a Marketing & Communications intern influence your personal or professional development?
My time in The Red Pencil (Singapore) allowed me to hone my skills in designing and storytelling, as I had to communicate the organization’s impact in a compelling and empathetic manner. On a personal level, my experiences have deepened my appreciation for art therapy and how creative outlets can facilitate emotional transformation and breakthroughs.
Can you share a memorable project or task you worked on during your time at The Red Pencil (Singapore)?
Â
One memorable project we worked on was for the Christmas campaign, where the Marcomms team had the opportunity to meet and interview multiple beneficiaries face-to-face. As the beneficiaries shared their stories, it was a poignant reminder of how privileged I am in both reality and to be serving this cause. Being able to see exactly who The Red Pencil (Singapore) helps made my work more tangible and worthwhile.
What skills or knowledge did you gain or improve upon during your internship, and how did you see them benefiting your future career?
I improved my skills in content creation, social media strategy, and communication. These skills are highly transferable, especially since I aspire to work in areas that require strong marketing and communication abilities. Learning how to connect with diverse audiences and deliver impactful messages will benefit me in any given role and circumstance as well.
How successful do you think The Red Pencil (Singapore) has been at using art therapy to connect with people?
The Red Pencil (Singapore) has been quite successful in using art therapy to connect with a wide variety of people, especially in reaching children and communities that might otherwise not have access to mental health services. Their outreach programmes, both local and overseas, have demonstrated the positive impact of creative therapies in helping people emotionally and mentally.
What are your hopes for The Red Pencil (Singapore)?Â
My hope for The Red Pencil (Singapore) is to continue expanding their reach, providing more opportunities for people to access art therapy services. I also hope the team can bridge the information gap for people who have yet to find out what art therapy is and how it can help, to break the current stigma and send a message that it is okay to seek help. Lastly, I’d love for them to secure more long-term donors and partnerships that allow them to scale up their efforts and make a deeper impact globally.
